Moving Day

After a very long day (a long week, actually) of packing, organizing, cleaning, and crying, we finally moved out of our little apartment in Whittier. With the help of friends, we packed all day on Thursday, and then Robby and I drove the old familiar drive to Visalia late Thursday night. Thanks to all of our fantastic friends for helping us: John, Kelly, Dave, Andrea, Andrew, and Curtis. They may not have wanted to help us move (because they'd rather us stay by them), but they were still amazing in helping make it possible.
Curtis and John working hard. I think these were the boxes that were filled with rocks.

Taking a pizza break

We're all smiles here, but the tears soon began flowing. Sniff.
To make the move a little easier, John and Kelly came and spent Friday night and Saturday with us in Visalia. We had a great time going to Fugazzi's for dinner (my favorite Visalia restaurant), TCBY for dessert (which is pretty much non-existent in SoCal), and Huckleberry's for breakfast.
John and Rob ordered the same dinner and the same dessert. What will these two do without each other around?

J&K are dedicated friends. They spent their anniversary helping us move. Sorry for such a lame anniversary present!

More pictures of our new (but old) home to come soon.

Fun Day with J&K

The deGrassie's and the Feely's decided to have one last perfect day to spend together any way they long as it cost very little :)
First stop: The Grove in LA

We had a great time walking around, shopping, and eating. The weather was just perfect, which was an important key in our perfect day.
On our way up the escalator to eat at Cheesecake Factory, the restaurant that has become the staple place in our friendship. Luckily, there's a CF relatively close to Visalia, so we can keep this part of the routine.
Second Stop: Griffith's Observatory
Thanks to Kelly's prodding (honestly, thanks Kelly!), we ended our day at Griffith's Observatory. It was so amazing. We watched a fantastic presentation in the planetarium called "Centered in the Universe." I think we all agreed that was the best $7 we had ever spent.

The view from the top during daytime. If you look closely, you can see the Hollywood sign.
Who's that man in the moon?
So this is love...
We learned an important lesson that night: we are the center of the universe. (Just kidding!)
The view of Los Angeles at night. Not quite as stunning as a star-filled sky, but still beautiful. --------
What a lovely day

Fun in the Sun

All our bags are packed and we're ready to go (sort of), but we couldn't leave Southern California without a couple of days at the beach. We soaked up all the sun we could this past weekend, enjoying some final fun time with our wonderful friends.
Dave, John, and Rob catch some rays before going in the water.
We had great Mexican food in Huntington at Fred's Cantina.
Rob and Dave have become very close these past years...perhaps too close!

A bit pink from the sunny day!

Entranced by the fire

Everyone is getting ready for the best part of a bonfire...smores!

Kelly, John, and Dave huddled up by the fire

So happy to be eating a roasted marshmallow! The sun's going down...
...and so are the peeps.
(Andrew brought these to roast. But beware if you try this at home: roasted peeps are extremely hot!)

A Very Happy Anniversary

Robby and I had a wonderful anniversary together, and he surprised me big time with a beautiful gift. Keep reading to see what he gave me!

The day started off with a tasty breakfast I made for us: crepes and scrambled eggs.
Yes, that is whipped cream. Okay, the crepes really are more like desserts, but Robby loves them, so I had to make them!

Mmmm...a big bite! On to dinner... We ate at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Robby has been wanting to eat there forever, and we finally did. It was fantastic! Look closely...see the sparkly thing around my neck?! Robby gave me the most beautiful diamond necklace!
His gift: non-diamond-studded sunglasses. I told him he definitely outdid me. But I don't mind :) Happy Anniversary to us...

Celebrating Number Three!

Today, Robby and I celebrate our third wedding anniversary, and yesterday, we received a special anniversary gift -- accidentally. Well, it really was just something neat that happened. Our day of moving is coming soon, so I had spent a good portion of the day going through old files, especially Rob's primitive idea of a file: a big cardboard box filled with all of his "important" stuff from college. I spent hours going through that box, shredding most of it and filing some of it away.

When Rob got home from work, I began opening some of his old bank statements and laughing with him at the lack of money he had. (Not that I had anything to talk about bank accounts are pretty pathetic.) I stumbled across one that showed some money in it at the beginning of the month, some type of major purchase in the middle, and nearly nothing at the end of the month. I asked him about it, and after looking at the date, we realized we had providentially found the bank statement from 2004 that showed the purchase of a special gift: a beautiful diamond ring! Here are a few pictures from our special day three years ago, thanks to Kara's photography skills.
Finally getting to put on that wedding dress!
All dressed up with somewhere to go.

Lovely bridesmaids: Camille, Carly, Chelsea V., Chelsea B., Steph, Kara, and Ranetta

I Know...

I know that the proud mom is supposed to be the one posting pictures of her child all of the time, but I can be the proud aunt, can't I? Here's a very recent one of Nathan.

And here is a picture of Stephanie, Molly, and the new addition to the Sario family: William Richard. I just loved the picture of Steph, Molly, and William. It is precious. Take a look at more of Steph's pictures at her blog.

New Church

Well, it is official: Rob will be the new Associate Pastor at Sierra Baptist Church in Visalia, CA. For those of you who have been following our move, you may be thinking, "I thought he already had the job." He kind of had it. There still was a final congregation vote that needed to take place, and that was done yesterday at church. Rob was voted in almost unanimously! Very exciting!

So, we are finishing up our time at West Lakewood Baptist Church. This coming Sunday will be our last Sunday. We of course have mixed emotions. We are excited to feel God leading us in a new direction, but we are also sad to leave what we have here. It has been a special place, and we will miss it.

We have planned to actually make the move on June 26, which is only ten days away! Rob will officially begin on July 1st, so we will have a few days to settle in before jumping in. Next item on the agenda: pack, pack, pack.

Lovely Gift

I received this beautiful flower from a student last week. It is a moon orchid, otherwise known as a moth orchid. It's absolutely beautiful, but I don't really know how to care for it. Already, some of the petals are wilting and falling off. Any suggestions? (I'm thinking Debbie or Linda may be able to help!)

Disneyland Part 2

Another fun night at Disneyland. Here are a few highlights:

Andrea and Scarlett can hardly keep their excitement in!

Okay, this is actually from the last trip, but I just had to add it. Rob and Dave are doing Dance Revolution! How funny is that?! Yes, you may believe your eyes. That is indeed Prince Caspian.
We love Disneyland, yes we do, we love Disneyland, how about you?Rob ends his evening with ice cream, but I would much rather have a Mickey pretzel. Mmm...

Will there be time for one more trip before we leave? Stay tuned...

This week, Rob and I went with some friends to Disneyland. Our pass is nearly up, so we need to take advantage of the last couple of times we can go. Plus, there is no Disneyland in Visalia :(
Rob and I prepare for the thrill of the Matterhorn!

John, Kelly, Dave, Andrea and I stop for a picture while waiting in line for Space Mountain.

Just the girls

Our group picture on Space Mountain. We got to ride in the front!

Dave and Andrea are ready to kill all of the bad guys!

What better way to end the night than enjoying a huge ice cream sundae?!
