Is it still October?

I think most teachers would agree that October is one of the longest teaching months there is. There are a couple of reasons that contribute to this. First, students are well into the year, which means they are well over the "new student" mood. They push, they test, they choose not to do homework or listen. Second, there is not one day off in October. Nothing! We've got Labor Day in September, Veteran's Day in November, but nada in October. Third, the weather is all over the place - one day it's raining, one day it's sunny, one day it's foggy. Students are kind of like cats - the weather affects their emotions. Something changes, and they're all freaked out. Finally, the fact that October has 31 days just tops it all off. Crammed in between two 30-day months, that extra day is truly noticeable.

Calla takes yoga to a whole new level.

Sorry for all the kitty pics lately. This is the last Calla picture I will post for awhile. I promise. Well, I think I promise. That is if she doesn't do anything cute, then I won't post a picture. And if she doesn't do anything funny, then I won't post a picture. And if I have plenty of other interesting things to write about, then I won't post a picture. Deal??

Autumn Rose

I wouldn't say roses are my favorite - I like flowers that have a little more surprise to them, I guess. Nonetheless, I had to stop and smell the roses today when our new baby rosebush produced this lovely red bloom.

Taste of the Town

Every October, Visalia hosts a "Taste of Downtown," where you can pay a flat fee and taste the greatest morsels and desserts our little town can offer. Last night, 25 restaurants, bakeries, and food joints opened their downtown doors for this fine occasion. Robby and I, as well as his mom and dad, joined other 100's of Visalians for this event and had a wonderful time. My favorites? A yummy spicy pasta dish from Fugazzi's, a taste of salmon and butter sauce from Henry's, a glass of sparkling sangria (Fugazzi's again), and an exciting pink cupcake from the new Frosted Muffin. My absolute least favorite--and this truly left me gagging--was a spaghetti squash with a pistachio meatball from Jack and Charlie's. I took the fall for everyone on that one - no one else tried it after they saw my reaction. Overall, it was a pleasant evening with good food and good company!

Kitty Bath

Yes, I give my white cat a bath. She gets absolutely disgusting, and the only way to fix that is to bathe her. The funny thing is she just accepts it now. There's not much meowing or fighting. After her bath, she gets a hair dry. After that, she gets a treat!
