Happy birthday, Chelsea!

Today my sister Chels celebrates her 29th birthday! For five sweet months, we are only one year apart :) Growing up that close in age meant that Chelsea was my built-in best friend. We even did the whole dress alike thing, which I never really minded.
Chels and her hubby, the perfect man for her
Chelsea has always been one thing: full of life. As a little girl, she had a great laugh (still does) and had an incredible amount of energy (still does). One of my favorite stories about her is when my mom woke up in the middle of the night to find her wide awake in the living room playing with her Barbies. That captures her so well as a kid: if there was something fun going on (or if there was the possibility of something fun going on), she was in. Although she swears she's settled down in her more mature years, I think she's got quite a bit of that in her, still.
We were stylish kids, rocking the plaid-lace and sweatshirt-turtleneck dresses.
Chels has a ton of great qualities, but one of her best quality is her ability to open a present and make you think you've just given her a million dollars. Seriously, she is the best present-opener around. It kinda makes you want to give her gifts all the time.
Look how happy she is! And that's our cousin Michael, who's getting married this weekend!
She has an incredible sense of humor, and her stories are downright unbelievable. Case in point: she recently helped the SFPD track down a few thugs. That reveals another special thing about her: she is an adventurer. She's taken risks and tried new things and (gasp!) lived outside of the valley. She's our inspiration to see a tiny bit of the world.

Chels exhibits a true love for life and people. She is kind, generous, and one of those rare souls who has a deep concern for others. She's been known to stand up and speak up for those who can't––just ask her about her public transportation stories.

We love you so much, Chels! Hope this year is the best yet!

Looking Good in Nude

I said in nude, not in the nude. As in, I am loving a great nude lip, eye, and nail, topped off (or is it bottomed off?) with a nude shoe. These are my favorites:
  1. Urban Decay Naked Palette: I've already oohed over this set of amazing colors from Urban Decay, but I've found myself loving the two matte colors––Buck and Nude––more than I thought I would. I wear them everyday.
  2. Banana Republic Maise Wedge in Nude: I scored these beauties at the BR outlet for $25. (Still case you're wondering.)
  3. Mac Cremesheen Lipstick in Peach Blossom: Just enough pink in this lip color so you don't look dead.
  4. Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel in Seashell: After getting a great gel mani a couple of months ago, I was on the hunt to match the nail color. I held my nails up to every bottle of polish in Target, and this one matched. Definitely needs a couple of coats, but so pretty and chic.
  5. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Deposit: Adds just a little (or just a lotta) gold and sparkle to an otherwise matte look.
What has been a way you've tried out this look? Any favorites?

Surprise! Happy 60th, Dad!

Today is my dad's 60th birthday! (Happy birthday, Daddy-o!) And since sixty is pretty awesome, we all threw him a surprise birthday party this past Saturday! It was a lot of planning and a lot of secrets, but it was worth it. He was totally shocked, and we had a great time celebrating the wonderful years God has granted him.
Love you, Dad! Looking forward to the next surprise party we throw you!

Happy birthday, Camille!

Today is my baby sister's birthday! Okay, I know she's not a baby at all. She's a beautiful, successful, married woman. But because she's the youngest, she's the one I remember most being little. And I love remembering when we were all little.
Here's a little bit about this girl we all love so:

We must begin with describing Camille in one simple word: fun. This girl is fun! Whether she's dancing, singing, mimicking (she's great at that!), or laughing her loud laugh, she makes the day a good one. If there's a dance floor, she's out there, and thanks to her days as a cheerleader, she can definitely hold her own.

Camille loves a good meal and a good sweet, from cupcakes to nerd ropes. And if she offers you a piece of gum, just know, it's probably fruit-flavored. Somehow, she reminds me of summer: so vibrant and full of life. And tan.

Camille is beautiful, with her big blue eyes and bright blonde hair. But more than that, she has a beautiful soul. She's incredibly kind and compassionate, so long as you're not a cat. Of course, like many of her family members, she has a bit of crazy inside her. But that's what makes her so loveable: she has a passion for life!

Camille has always been a wonderful sister, daughter, and friend, and now she's a wonderful wife, too. She loves her family deeply, and (we'll be honest) we'd do just about anything for her.

I wish you many, many happy years, Camille! Love you, little Beebs!

Sniff...A Summary of Summer

It's sad, but true: Summer is over. Today I went back to school, throwing myself in for the first long day of meetings. Sure, sure, summer isn't officially over until the end of September, but we all know once those back-to-school sales show up, summer's gone.

Still, I'm not complaining, just crying a bit to myself. This summer was so nice. I was a terrible blogger, and even though I'd love to sit down and pound out ten posts about summer events, I can't.'s the summary, in one long blog post.

We kicked off the summer with a fantastic week-long anniversary trip. Oh, it was wonderful. Paso Robles, Pismo, Avila. I'm already dreaming of a visit back to Avila La Fonda ASAP–their rates are cheaper in the fall, you know.

In June, we went and saw my favorite band right now, All Sons and Daughters, with a pre-show dinner in celebration of Steph's 30th birthday!

Before we knew it, July was here. We made a last minute trip to visit Chels and Roger in San Francisco, spending a day with them then staying in their apartment while they went away for the weekend. It was awesome watching the Fourth of July fireworks over the San Francisco bay! We also spent a good few hours at Lands End, among other fun places.
Our last big hoorah was spending a week in Carlsbad with my family! It was so great - Carly and Camille were able to stay for the whole time, which was extremely special. Wish Chels would have been able to stay, as well as the bro-in-laws. Next year, we're making it work out!

Carlsbad was busy this year -- we did a Foodie Tour in downtown San Diego, which happened to be the weekend of Comic-Con. (Fun seeing all those crazies...kinda jealous I wasn't wearing some fabulous Hogwarts robes!) We stopped in Old Towne San Diego, which I was not too impressed with, although I hear has great Mexican food. We spent a day at the Del Mar Races, which was fantastic! I even won a little money! Then lost it. We had a whole afternoon and evening with John and Kelly, getting to visit their little ones again and kissing on the new babe. And in between all that we soaked up the sun, played in the water, found seashells, watched movies, and ate a lot of great food. It was fabulous.
And in between all those big trips were lots of little wonderful moments. Hanging out with our families and friends, enjoying chips and Mom's homemade salsa, lounging by the pool, shopping, sewing, reading. Oh and course working on our new blogging adventure.

As hard as I tried not to let it happen, somehow the days turned into nights and time passed. If any of you figure out a way not to time fly when you're having fun, please hand that on to me.

I hope you all had a great summer! And here we begin the 2013-2014 year!

Introducing Citrus and Cream!

It has been a busy summer, my friends. I have a number of posts rattling around in my head, but before I can write any of those, I just have to share my new exciting adventure with you!

My friend Stephanie and I have created a site called Citrus and Cream. It seeks to highlight what we love about our home (get it...citrus and the commodities in the valley), but also will be stocked full of recipes, DIYs, projects, entertaining ideas...everything we all love!

Check it out here, and follow along! Even if you're not a valley native, you will (hopefully) still enjoy the fun posts we plan to share! And this week, we have a ton of really great giveaways, so by reading, liking, and sharing, I may get to send you a little gift in the mail! How sweet is that?!

You can also find Citrus and Cream on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter!
